NASA

     For my History project I have decided to look at NASA and their online museum that is linked with the website. I Found this very interesting given that I have always been very interested in space and the different space programs that have happened in the past and will take place in the future. The first page of the website goes over the current events that are taking place at NASA and some of the headline articles that are going on in the space program.

The first thing that I decided to look at is the tab that goes over the photo of the day. This is a page that allows the visitors to look at a picture of a different rocket or a picture that is taken from a telescope. Today's picture of the day shows a space capsule reentering the atmosphere. I find this picture very interesting because it shows the heat capsule fighting against the pressure and tension of a capsule reentering the atmosphere. Yesterday's picture of the day is the Orion capsule after entering earth and shows it landing in the ocean. This is interesting because it shows the parachutes and main landing mechanism in use. I found the picture of the day tab to be very interesting and allows people to see the first hand photos taken of the different pictures that are taken by NASA on a daily basis.

The next thing that I decided to look at was the different tabs that talk about what is going on in space today and what has happened in the recent past. It talks about the people who are currently in the International Space Station. It mainly focuses on commander Sergey Prokopyev and the final preparation he is doing before he leaves the space station in the next couple of weeks. I also show many different videos of the space station and show many different facilities that are in the space station. There is also an article that talks about the celebration of the 20 years of the space station. It also gives a detailed map of the space station and allows you to see a first hand station in the ISS. I found this very interesting because it goes over the different parts of the space station and allows you to see the different view that the real astronauts see while living in the International Space Station. I also found it very interesting because it goes over all the parts that are used to build the station and all the different parts of it. This is a powerful resource because it shows a lot of the different things that are happening at the International Space Station. It allows the viewers to see and gather information of the different parts of the Space Station and all the different components that went into creating the space station. 

NASA also talks a lot about the earth and the different resources that are happening at the time. It talks about climate change, hazards, water oceans and ice, land, and the benefits of earth. I found the climate change section very interesting because it talks about all the different scientific studies that are taking place currently. With the world cup currently going on it has an article showing the amount of light that can be seen from space from Qatar over the years. It starts out as a small city in a vast desert land and then becomes a major city. I found it very interesting to see the development that can be seen from a very short time that can be seen from space. The climate change section talks about a new satellite that they are launching in space that will be able to track the water levels of the ocean and the many different natural water supplies. It also shows the SWOT satellite and gives a virtual tour. I found this very interesting because I have never seen a tour of a satellite.

This digital resource also has a TV channel that is offered that shows different space walks and what is happening at NASA at the time. while i was watching NASA TV it showed a space walk that took place last month. It showed an astronaut talking to his different crew members and mission control about what he was seeing and how the mission he was currently doing was going. The mission he was on was to look at why a sensor on the outside of the International Space Station was malfunctioning. He ended up replacing the sensor and it ended up working. I found this very interesting because the have the ability to show what is happening in the space station and show the public what happens at NASA and how they fix the problems that come up with it. There is also a guide that talks about what will be showing next and throughout the day.     

       The NASA virtual exhibit on their website is a very fun and useful resource. The people who would use this website are any one that is interested in anything with space and science. It you have an interest in learning about space there is no better website. Other people who would be interested in this website would be anyone learning about climate change.

Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow exhibit review

  Over the course of this semester, we discussed public history in great detail by identifying what it is and where we see it. We can see history being made available and accessible to the public through a museums and exhibits. These exhibits educate the public about different parts of our history. The goal is to spread knowledge on a variety of historical subjects, making historical research understandable and available to the public. While there are many museums and exhibits that are visited frequently in person there are also online versions of these exhibits and some that are made to be viewed only online. Basbeall: America's Home Run

  Baseball has long been considered part of America's pastime, right along with apple pie and hot dogs. The National Postal Museum based in the Smithsonian along with the Smithsonian Latino Center, has created an in-person and corresponding online exhibit showcasing the impact of Baseball on American culture and society.  “Baseball: America's Home Run '', is an exhibit which will be on view and open to the public through 2025.  It explores the history of baseball and how it has been commemorated through the post office. Through artifacts collected through private collectors and museums, such as uniforms, bats, along with artwork from the postal service, a unique history of baseball has been put on display.
